Summary
Scientist Sanjay Mehra ( Rakesh Roshan ) succeeds in contacting life on other planets through a computer program. When he goes to tell this to the scientific community, he is not believed and despised. While returning he sees a spaceship , due to which he gets distracted and his vehicle crashes. He dies there and his pregnant wife Sonia ( Rekha ) suffers injuries. His son Rohit ( Hrithik Roshan ) is born mentally disabled . He grows up physically but his mind remains like a child. His friends are children several years younger than him.
A young girl named Nisha ( Preity Zinta ) comes to their town. Initially she has a hostile attitude towards Rohit as he plays many pranks on her. Due to this, his partner, Raj ( Rajat Bedi ) and his friends constantly harass Rohit. Later, Nisha is sympathetic towards Rohit when she learns about his mental disability from his mother. She invites Rohit to her house and introduces him to her parents. He also sympathizes with Rohit. Rohit and Nisha playfully tamper with Sanjay Mehra's computer program and unknowingly summon the creatures again. The arriving aliens leave in a hurry and accidentally leave one behind. Rohit, Nisha and Rohit's friend find it and name it 'Jaadoo'. Magic boosts the strength of Rohit's mind by using his special powers obtained from sunlight. This makes him very intelligent, powerful and good at everything.
Nisha and Rohit spend more time together and Nisha begins to see Rohit romantically. Later Rohit confesses his love to her and she accepts. The existence of magic is kept a secret from everyone except Rohit, Nisha, Rohit's friends and Rohit's mother. Later Raj and his friend Rohit attack him after seeing him alone one day. The magic which was in his bag falls out, which is seen by Havildar Chellaram ( Johnny Lever ). Then the police goes after Rohit because scientists want that creature for research. Rohit calls their spaceship again and captures Jadoo before the police can send her away by plane and returns her to her companions. Rohit loses the physical and mental powers given by him and reverts to his less intelligent form. Due to which he escapes punishment by the Indian government. After everything is over, Raj and his friends return to harass Rohit. There the magic returns Rohit's powers permanently. Rohit and Nisha thank the magic and live a peaceful life after that.
